Peshawar Zalmi captain Babar Azam scripted history in the playoff game against Multan Sultans in the Pakistan Super League 2024. After his poor form in the ICC World Cup 2023 and the Test series against Australia, Babar returned to scoring ways. He hit three fifties in the five-match T20I series against New Zealand and then showed his class in the Bangladesh Premier League.
He has continued his unstoppable run in PSL 2024. Babar is expected to finish the tournament as the leading run-scorer. Zalmi were second in the points table after the group stage and will get two chances to reach the final.
On Match 14 (Thursday), he completed 500 runs in 10 innings in the ongoing season. Babar is the second player after Mohammad Rizwan to reach the record in three different seasons of the Pakistan Super League.
Babar amassed 500 runs in 2021 and 2023. Rizwan achieved the milestone in 2021, 2022 and 2023.
Apart from Babar and Rizwan, Fakhar Zaman is the only player to hit the 500-mark in the premier T20 competition. Zaman holds the record of scoring most runs in a single season. The southpaw accumulated 588 runs in 2022.
Babar has a chance to break the record as he will play atleast one more match after the ongoing contest.
