Australia captain Steve Smith was surprised when he was asked to give a suggestion to struggling Babar Azam. He was talking to the media ahead of his team’s match against England in the ICC Champions Trophy 2025. Smith was questioned about what the star batter of Pakistan needs to do to return to form.
Smith didn’t like the query but backed Babar to find a way through this rough patch, adding that the best players do experience such periods.
Babar played a slow innings against New Zealand, scoring 64 runs off 90 deliveries as Pakistan lost the contest by 60 runs.
“Babar is a quality player and has scored runs. He has a solid technique and got a good head on his shoulders. He hasn’t scored as many as he would have liked to in the recent times but this happens with all the top players. He is a wonderful player,” Steve Smith said.
Babar will have to play a big knock in Pakistan’s next game against India in Dubai. A defeat against the arch-rivals will eliminate them from the first round of the Champions Trophy.
Meanwhile, Smith refused to predict the four semi-finalists of the ongoing global tournament.
