Harbhajan Singh is not in favor of Rohit Sharma batting at the No.6 slot in the second Test against Australia. The day-night Test, which will be played with a pink ball, is set to start on December 6 at the Adelaide Oval. Rohit opted out of the series opener in Perth due to the birth of his second child, leaving India to open with KL Rahul and Yashasvi Jaiswal.
The duo added 201 runs for the first wicket in the second innings, helping India set a 543-run target for the hosts and eventually winning the match by 295 runs.
Rohit and Jaiswal have been successful openers in the past. However, Rahul’s impressive batting display has put the management in a fix.
“I don’t think Rohit Sharma should bat at five or six. Either he will open the innings with Yashasvi Jaiswal, with KL Rahul at three, or he will bat no later than the number three slot. Captain batting at no.6 is not good for the team. Your top four batters are the four pillars of the batting unit,” he told PTI.
Bhajji also dismissed age as a reason for Ravichandran Ashwin’s removal from the playing XI in the first Test.
“Being 38 doesn’t mean that you are old. Ashwin is not 58. But, the shoulders start showing fatigue after so many years. Washington Sundar bowled well against New Zealand and he is ready to take over the mantle from Ashwin in Test cricket.”
