Chennai Super Kings are working towards major changes for the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2025. In the past, the five-time champions have retained their core group but MS Dhoni at the fag end of career, the franchise need a new face, who can take the team forward.
According to The Indian Express, Dhoni and other decision-makers of the franchise are keen on adding Rishabh Pant to the squad and are working on their retentions accordingly. Ruturaj Gaikwad, Matheesha Pathirana and Dhoni will stay with the franchise but there is no confirmation about Ravindra Jadeja.
CSK are aware that if the southpaw comes to the mega auction, they have to keep in excess of Rs 20 crore for the star batter. To achieve their task, CSK might release Jadeja and buy him back using the Right to Match (RTM) card.
Jadeja hasn’t been at his best in the shortest format and if he comes to the auction pool, CSK have a chance of buying him at a lesser amount. Chennai applied same strategy with Dwayne Bravo and Faf du Plessis in 2018. However, the long association and the emotional connect between the franchise and the all-rounder could still leading to his retention with Dhoni closely involved.
Meanwhile, the new management of Delhi Capitals have decided to release Pant as they are interested in Shreyas Iyer, who is heading out of the Kolkata Knight Riders. Ricky Ponting and Sourav Ganguly were Rishabh’s backers but with both of them removed from the top management by Delhi, Rishabh has no option but to head to mega auction.
