The Indian team faced significant challenges in their preparations for the ICC T20 World Cup 2024, particularly surrounding their two senior cricketers and team leaders, Rohit Sharma and Hardik Pandya. Both players had a difficult few months leading up to the tournament – Rohit lost the captaincy of the Mumbai Indians and was replaced by Hardik, while Pandya drew heavy criticism from fans both on and off the field due to the team’s shocking performance under his leadership.
Rumors swirled during the IPL season that Hardik and Rohit were reportedly not seeing eye-to-eye in the dressing room. This led to a division in the team.
Head coach Rahul Dravid faces the challenge of helping the two players move past their differences. However, it appears they have taken a step towards uniting for the common goal of winning the World Cup. Hardik was seen bowling with full intensity to Rohit.
Former India all-rounder Irfan Pathan advised Dravid to handle the Hardik-Rohit scenario without bringing up the IPL matters in the dressing room.
“As an all-rounder, Hardik Pandya will play a crucial role. We’ve only selected three specialist bowlers, in addition to Pandya and Shivam Dube. When the time comes, these 3-4 overs from Pandya will be pivotal. His inclusion allows us to field an extra spinner for our day matches in the West Indies. It’s important that Pandya feels confident in his ability to contribute, so discussions about his IPL performance should not be a distraction,” remarked Pathan.
