The Kerala Cricket Association (KCA) has imposed a three-year ban on former India cricketer S. Sreesanth, who refused to share details about the matter, claiming that he is not aware of the developments. The KCA suspended Sreesanth for his defamatory statements on Sanju Samson‘s exclusion from the national team for the ICC Champions Trophy 2025.
Sreesanth accused the KCA of intentionally omitting Samson from the Vijay Hazare squad. The Ajit Agarkar-led selection panel did not consider Samson for the global tournament after he didn’t play in the premier domestic ODI tournament. On Friday, the KCA officially announced that the decision was taken at the association’s Annual General Body Meeting in Kochi on April 30.
Sreesanth refused to make a statement when a news agency reached out to him for comment. “I am not aware of it.”
According to reports, Sreesanth may pursue legal action against the state cricket body, and he is awaiting formal notification from the KCA.
Sreesanth has been involved in controversies in the past. He was issued a legal notice by the Legends League Cricket (LLC) Commissioner after he had shared the information about his on-field altercation in 2023.
He was arrested after his involvement in spot-fixing during an IPL match for the Rajasthan Royals against Punjab on May 9, 2013. Sreesanth, alongside Ajit Chandila and Ankeet, was initially given a life ban.
Following his appeal, the Supreme Court of India instructed the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) to revise the penalty. As a result, the life ban was modified to a seven-year suspension, which ended in September 2020.
