Former Indian pacer RP Singh has lauded the signing of Indian all-rounder Shardul Thakur as the standout acquisition for the five-time champions, Chennai Super Kings, at the IPL 2024 auction. Thakur, having played three seasons with CSK, went under the hammer and Delhi Capitals bought him for Rs 10.50 crore. Later, DC traded him to Kolkata Knight Riders, who released him before the IPL 2024 retention deadline last month.
Speaking to Jio Cinema, Singh emphasized that CSK secured Thakur at an excellent price, highlighting his ability. Thakur was signed by CSK for Rs 4 crore after being released by Kolkata Knight Riders.
“I believe Shardul Thakur is a valuable addition due to his skills as an Indian fast bowler with variations and his significant contribution to batting. Given these factors, the Chennai Super Kings acquired him at a favourable price. In my opinion, CSK could have allocated a bit more budget for Shardul,” Singh said.
RP Singh went on to declare Thakur as the best purchase for the Chennai-based franchise. He stated that Thakur’s acquisition not only strengthened their squad but also allowed them the financial flexibility to pursue other players.
“Acquiring Shardul at that cost expanded Chennai’s choices. They saved funds, enabling them to pursue additional players and extend their pursuit of Rizvi. In my view, Shardul Thakur stood out as the top purchase for Chennai,” he added.
Chennai Super Kings buy an uncapped player for Rs 8.4 Crore
Chennai Super Kings (CSK) made a bold move in the IPL 2024 auction, snapping up uncapped batsman Sameer Rizvi for a whopping Rs 8.4 crore. This hefty price tag was 42 times his base price of Rs 20 lakh. The 20-year-old cricketer from UP became one of the most expensive uncapped players in IPL history.
