India’s vice-captain, Shubman Gill, played a spectacular knock of 112 runs off 102 balls against England at the Narendra Modi Stadium in Ahmedabad during the 3rd ODI of the series. This century marked a significant milestone, as it made Gill the first player to score centuries in all formats at the venue.
With a total of 412 runs from 7 matches in Ahmedabad, Shubman has consistently delivered at this ground. He had previously scored a T20I century against New Zealand in 2023, followed by a Test hundred against Australia in the same year. Now, with his ODI century against England, he has completed the remarkable feat.
Gill is the first Indian batter to achieve this and only the fifth in the world. Other players who have managed this feat at specific venues include Faf du Plessis, David Warner, Babar Azam, and Quinton de Kock.
Hundred at a venue in all three formats
Shubman Gill – Motera Ahmedabad
Faf du Plessis – Wanderers Johannesburg
Quinton de Kock – Supersport Park, Centurion
David Warner – Adelaide Oval
Babar Azam – National Stadium, Karachi
In the 3-match ODI series against England, Shubman has been in exceptional form, scoring a hundred and two fifties. With 259 runs at an average of 86.33, he was the leading run-scorer. His strike rate of 103.60 further highlighted his aggressive and fluent batting.
On match day, Shubman played a key role in stabilizing the Indian innings after Rohit Sharma’s early dismissal in the first over. He took full advantage of the Ahmedabad pitch, racing to 80 runs off just 73 balls. Although he slowed down slightly as he neared his century, he reached the milestone in 94 balls.
His innings proved invaluable in helping India navigate the middle overs, as he built important partnerships with Virat Kohli and Shreyas Iyer. This laid the foundation for India’s massive total.
India eventually surpassed their highest ODI total at the venue—325 runs against the West Indies in 2002—finishing with an impressive 356 runs in 50 overs.
