In the Vijay Hazare Trophy, Tamil Nadu’s off-spinner Varun Chakravarthy is on a wicket taking spree. At Mumbai’s Brabourne Stadium, the Kolkata Knight Riders spinner gave his career-best performance, taking 5 for 9, against Nagaland in Tamil Group E.
Varun Chakravarthy ripped through the Nagaland batting lineup in his 5-over spell, bowling three maidens and giving away just nine runs. The spinner from Tamil Nadu continued his excellent form in the white-ball competition with his second five-wicket haul in List A cricket.
Varun Chakravarthy was introduced by captain Dinesh Karthik during the first powerplay, and the spinner was spot on. After Tamil Nadu’s early breakthroughs thanks to T Natarajan and Sandeep Warrier, who removed the Nagaland openers, the spin duo of Varun and R Sai Kishore went on a rampage.
Sai Kishore of the Gujarat Titans bowled 5.4 overs and claimed 3 wickets. Nagaland were bowled out for 69 runs in just 19.4 overs.
Tamil Nadu have 20 points from 6 matches. Tamil Nadu’s only defeat in the group stage came against Punjab. Varun has bagged 14 wickets in just 6 matches in the ongoing Vijay Hazare Trophy.
Varun Chakravarthy is eager to earn a spot in the national team.
