Afghanistan registered their biggest win in the history when the sub-continent team defeated Australia by 21 runs in Super 8 match of the ICC T20 World Cup 2024. Rashid Khan-led team defended 148, with Gulbadin Naib leading the wicket-taking charts. He took four wickets and conceded just 20 runs from his four overs. He was supported by Naveen Ul Haq, who dismissed three batters. Australia were bowled out for 127 runs in 19.2 overs.
Naib was over the moon after Afghanistan’s sensational stuff. “I would like to thank everyone who supported us. It is not about my bowling and wickets, as everyone contributed to the victory. This win is for our citizens and players.
“Thank you, Rashid Khan, for trusting me. It is a big day for us. We have been waiting for it for years and finally we managed to beat Australia. The next game against Bangladesh is important for us and they are a good team. We have two days time to prepare for the contest. We will rest for a day and then see how to go about that game,” Gulbadin Naib said.
Afghanistan’s win was also set up by their two openers, who added 118 runs for the opening wicket. Rahmanullah Gurbaz managed 60 runs off 49 balls, packed with 4 fours and 4 sixes. On the other hand, Ibrahim Zadran amassed 51 runs off 48 deliveries, with the help of 6 fours.
For Australia, Pat Cummins (3 wickets) and Adam Zampa ( 2 wickets) were the best bowlers.
