The Hundred will return for its fifth and transitional edition in 2025, with significant changes on the horizon. A boost in private investment, exceeding £500 million, will shape the future of the format. All eyes will be on its performance, including viewer engagement, ticket sales, and overall interest, as key players like Kane Williamson, David Warner, and Steve Smith are set to participate. A new dedicated window separate from the international season was a key factor in drawing these high-profile names to the tournament.
Both the men’s and women’s competitions have seen notable roster changes. Jamie Smith has moved to London Spirit, while Zak Crawley now plays for Northern Superchargers. Other shifts include Lewis Gregory departing from Trent Rockets, and Jason Roy joining Southern Brave. Meanwhile, players like Alex Hales and Moeen Ali have decided to sit out the competition. On the women’s side, the Oval Invincibles have signed Meg Lanning from Spirit, with Megan Schutt joining Birmingham Phoenix. Sophie Devine is heading to Brave, and the Manchester Originals have secured Amelia Kerr.
A major disappointment is the absence of Indian players, both in the men’s and women’s events. The tournament format remains unchanged, with teams facing each other once and twice against local rivals. The team finishing at the top of the table will directly advance to the final, while the second and third-ranked teams will play an eliminator to secure a spot in the final. The opening match and final will take place at Lord’s, with the final scheduled for August 31.
