If you’re not getting your steps in, don’t beat yourself up about it: Try a portable treadmill instead. Also known as under-desk treadmills or walking pads, these minimal machines are meant for taking leisurely walks indoors, whether underneath your standing desk or in front of a television set. They also help dodge bad weather — a must for this week — and get your blood pumping instantly.
This particular model can handle speeds between 0.6 and 3.8 MPH, making it great for anyone who wants to walk at a slow pace without amping up into a run. It has a non-slip belt for staying steady and balanced, it’s layered with silicone to reduce impact on muscles, ankles and joints, and it has two front wheels to help move it around your space.
To operate, you just plug it in and use the included remote control. An LED screen at the top of the pad tells you when it’s powered on and how fast it’s going, while you can adjust its speed using the controller.

“I love this treadmill and bought it to start my fitness journey. It is easy to use and works great. Very convenient! Perfect for days when it is not suitable to go out. I am very satisfied with this purchase!” — Kay Young
“I’ve only had this for one day so far, but it was super easy to set up – just take it out of the box and plug it in. It came with a remote with a wrist strap to adjust settings while you’re walking on the pad. I have it partially on carpet and partially on tile and it’s not getting jammed or anything. I’ve enjoyed walking while watching TV, or just hopping on for a few minutes if I get anxious. […] But this is the first walking pad I’ve seen under $100 ($99.99 at time of writing, plus a $10 coupon) and I’m delighted I have it. I’ve got plans to acquire a standing desk converter and once I get that I’m going to move this to my workspace so I can walk while I do spreadsheets. Fortunately my TV and my workspace are very close together so I’m not going to have to lug it all over the house for use during different activities. I think it’s a little too big to hide under my coffee table when not in use so I’m going to have to come up with some sort of clever solution to hide it away so it doesn’t just live in the middle of my living room. “[…] The treadmill is extremely durable and seems to be built with quality materials. It moves around easily, and despite being compact, it feels sturdy when in use. It’s also very simple to use, with a remote control that allows her to adjust the speed or stop/start without any hassle. The LED display is clear, showing real-time stats like speed, time, distance, and calories burned, which helps her track her progress during her sessions. […]” — John P. “This walking pad was so simple to get set up, take it out of the box and plug it in, done! It isn’t as light as I thought it would be, but I can still move it around. It will live under the couch and come out in the evenings for me to get my steps in. The max speed is a speedy walk, which is fine for my needs. Hopefully this will help strengthen my knees and legs in general. I am quite pleased with how this feels and looks, the price was very reasonable.” — M
“Already just opening the box we were able to see the dimensions were perfect for us, the colors really popped off the walk pad. It’s not very heavy, easy to move, durable, great remote, very easy to see the controls. Can slide out from under the bed no problem, after stepping on it, the actual pad itself is very comfortable. Overall exceeded our expectations. Initially, I will do a follow up at some point, but so far so good.” — David Gramling
