Two Bihar teams reached the Moin-ul-Haq Stadium to face Mumbai in the new Ranji Trophy season. The Bihar Cricket Association is a divided house, which was evident with what happened on the field. There were heated exchanges and a bit of scuffle between the officials.
The intervention of police led to the start of the Bihar-Mumbai match at around 1 pm.
The team picked by the BCA president Rakesh Tiwary took the field. On the other hand, the second team that had the permission from secretary Amit Kumar wasn’t allowed to enter the playing area. According to the Indian Express, both Tiwary and Kumar claimed that theirs was the bonafide team.
“We have good players in the squad. Sakib Hussain will play in the Indian Premier League. We have a 12-year-old cricketer making his debut against Mumbai. The team picked by the secretary can’t be real as he is suspended,” the BCA president Rakesh Tiwary told the Indian Express.
Secretary Amit refuted Tiwary’s suspension claims. “I am not suspended. I won the election and currently holds the post of secretary of the BCA. How can a president select a team? Roger Binny, the president of the BCCI, doesn’t announce the squad. The squad list always carries the signature of secretary Jay Shah,” he said.
The BCA blamed suspended secretary Amit for all the mess and promised to take serious against all those who were involved in the fake team incident and also for attacking an official.
BCA president Tiwary also slammed Aditya Verma, the original petitioner in the 2013 spot-fixing case, for the disturbance.
Meanwhile, Bihar reduced the visiting Mumbai team to 235/9 on Day 1. Veer Pratap Singh took 4 wickets.
