Piyush Chawla suggested that Virat Kohli and Rohit Sharma may be contemplating a special strategy to clinch the T20 World Cup trophy this year.
With India placed in Group A alongside Pakistan, USA, Canada, and Ireland, the anticipation for success is palpable. Despite reaching the final once and the semi-final twice after winning the inaugural edition, India is yet to secure the T20 World Cup trophy.
Virat Kohli and Rohit Sharma‘s role in the T20I set-up remains uncertain, as they haven’t played a T20I for India since the 2022 T20 World Cup, where they faced defeat against England in the semi-final.
Chawla suggested that the star duo desires to make a significant impact and bring the coveted trophy home.
“Kohli and Rohit may be considering things differently when asked about carrying past baggage. Their focus is on doing something special to secure a World Cup victory. On the field, you don’t dwell on the past, you live in the current situation. Personally, I believe experience is crucial in crunch situations.” Piyush Chawla said on Star Sports.
Former India cricketer Sanjay Manjrekar who was also a part of the discussion emphasized the selectors’ role in deciding Kohli and Rohit’s T20I future.
“The selectors can play the waiting game until the time for selection arrives. They must then make tough decisions, which will be straightforward as they assess Rohit Sharma’s form, Virat Kohli’s form, and the performance of everyone else competing in the IPL,” Sanjay Manjrekar added.
