India head coach Gautam Gambhir has clarified that his team will continue playing aggressive cricket in ODIs. After a 4-1 T20I series win over England, the two teams will now compete in three fifty-over games. Ravichandran Ashwin thinks Virat Kohli and Rohit Sharma can perform well in this game format.
Ashwin highlighted how Rohit batted in the 2023 ODI World Cup and the 2024 T20 World Cup. However, he wants Virat to play his natural game. If the veteran can find his form, no one will stop the Men in Blue in one-day internationals.
“Rohit Sharma batted aggresively in the ODI and T20 World Cups and I don’t think he will change his template. He will not step back from his approach,” Ashwin said.
“Virat Kohli would be playing the role of Hardik Pandya and Rinku Singh. He has to bridge between aggressive batting and finishing the innings,” he added.
Virat is the MVP in the 50-over format, and Ashwin urged the batter to play to his strength. “If he regains his form, it will be best for the Indian team. He doesn’t have to change his style as there is no hurry in ODIs.”
India will travel to Dubai for the ICC Champions Trophy 2025 after the ODI series against England.
