Walkable European city has scenic views and costs just £50 to visit | Travel News | Travel

Prague is one of the cheapest destinations to fly to for a foreign city break, with tourists able to travel there and back for under £50.

With around eight million tourists visiting the capital of the Czech Republic each year it is easy to imagine that the city is overcrowded.

However, the travel blog Our Taste For Life has shared a number of attractions Prague has to offer that most visitors are completely unaware of, including a trip to the Holešovice district.

Translating to ‘Village of the Beardless’, Holešovice was once a rather unattractive neighbourhood known for meatpacking.

However, it is now one of the trendiest parts of the city, featuring a string of cafes and bars and an eye-catching Letna Park.

Our Taste For Life also suggested that tourists thinking about beating the crowds during a city break to Prague should spend a couple of hours bathing in beer.

Whilst there are beer gardens and pubs all over the city, beer baths is a tradition that has existed in the Czech Republic since the Middle Ages, believed to be cleansing to the skin and regenerate hair.

One of the most renowned locations for beer bathing is the Bernard Beer Spa, with an hour and a half’s soak and an unlimited supply of drinks costing around £100.

Visitors looking to stay sober on their Czech trip were also advised to learn about the magicians that were rumoured to once roam the streets of Prague.

The Museum of Alchemists and Magicians of Old Prague celebrates former residents of the city that practiced in the dark arts by recreating a lab to showcase a number of illusions.

Curiously, the museum is also home to a number of wax works of famous historical figures from all over the world.

Finally, if all else fails and tourists want a peaceful break from city life, Our Taste For Life recommended they take a walk through the Divoka Sarka Reserve.

Situated on the outskirts of Prague, the area was initially used as a settlement by the Slavs in the sixth century, with one gorge named after the warrior Šárka, who threw herself off a cliff after betraying her lover.

Today, things in the Divoka Sarka Reserve are far more tranquil, offering a number of scenic walks and an outdoor swimming pool.
