In the upcoming New Year’s Test between Australia and Pakistan at the Sydney Cricket Ground (SCG) from January 3, all attention is focused on David Warner, who will bid farewell to his Test career on his home turf. SCG’s head groundsman, Adam Lewis, expressed the team’s collective desire to witness a century from Warner in his final Test.
Hailing from New South Wales, Warner boasts an impressive average of 82.94 in Tests at the SCG, accumulating 793 runs in 11 matches, including four centuries. The left-handed opener, who commenced the series against Pakistan with a century in Perth, aims to conclude his Test career on a high note.
Despite speculation surrounding his place in the side, Warner received unwavering support from the team management and selectors for the series opener. He silenced his critics with a match-winning century, and while he faced a setback in the Boxing Day Test in Melbourne, anticipation is high for another stellar performance in his farewell match.
Adam Lewis acknowledged Warner’s consistent support for curators across Australia, recognizing the challenges they face.
“We hold David Warner in high regard. He takes care of the curators all across Australia. He has supported us on numerous occasions and understands the challenges we face and how tough it can be. We greatly respect him. We all eagerly await seeing him hit a century in his last Test match. That would be fantastic,” he said.
