Despite the controversial calls, the action on the field has been entertaining. Australia were bowled out for 180 in their first innings. In response, the West Indies managed 190.
West Indies head coach Daren Sammy has hit out at the third umpire, Adrian Holdstock, for his howlers against the hosts in the first Test against Australia in Barbados. WI Test captain Roston Chase and Shai Hope were given out by the TV umpire on the second day.
Chase was adjudged LBW by the on field official on Pat Cummins’ delivery but the batter reviewed the decision straightaway. The replays showed a deflection off the bat but the TV umpire didn’t consider it. Hope was given his marching orders but replays showed that the ball had touched the ground and the catch by Australian wicketkeeper Alex Carey was not clean.
“We want to know about the process of making decisions. There has to be consistency. When there is doubt, the officials should be consistent. I have seen with this umpire and it started with me in England. It is frustrating. The decision-making has to be consistent,” Daren Sammy said.
“You don’t want to be in a situation where you start doubting a particular umpire. Is he against your team? But when wrong decisions are given against you, then you start raising questions. You don’t want to play a Test match having that kind of doubt in your mind,” he added.
