India were awarded five penalty runs against the United States of America in the ICC T20 World Cup match at the Nassau County International Cricket Stadium in New York. Paul Reiffel, the on-field umpire, spoke to the USA’s stand-in captain, Aaron Jones, before the start of the 16th over of India’s chase to inform him about the sanction against his team.
The co-hosts didn’t start three overs on time and were penalized by the official. According to a new rule, the bowling team is given one minute between the overs, and if the limit is crossed a few times, five runs will be added to the score of the batting unit.
India were 76/3 at the end of 15 overs, and with a five-run penalty, the score became 81/3 without a ball being bowled. Meanwhile, the Men in Blue registered a seven-wicket win over the USA to make it to the Super 8 stage.
Earlier, Rohit Sharma won the toss and elected to bowl first. Arshdeep Singh’s four-wicket haul restricted the States to 110/8 in 20 overs.
Chasing 111 runs, Virat Kohli (0) and Rohit Sharma (3) were undone by Saurabh Netravalkar. However, Suryakumar Yadav’s unbeaten fifty and Shivam Dube’s knock of 31 not out took the team home in 18.2 overs.
Arshdeep was named the Player of the Match for his sensational Bowling display.
