South Africa fast bowler Kagiso Rabada has joined the elite list of players following his performance in the second innings of the World Test Championship Final at Lord’s. He took nine wickets in the contest.
In the second essay, Rabada dismissed four wickets. He got rid of Usman Khawaja, Cameron Green, Alex Carey and Nathan Lyon.
Rabada’s name was already on the away board after he recorded figures of 5/52 against England in 2022. However, the fast bowler got his name on the home board after South Africa was given the status of the home team after topping the points table in the ongoing WTC cycle.
According to custom at Lord’s, the players scoring hundreds or taking five wickets are rewarded by mentioning their names on the honours board.
Rabada now has his name on the home and away honours board. He is the second player after West Indies’ legend Gordon Greenidge to script this record.
The legendary batter scored an unbeaten 214 and 103 for the West Indies in two appearances against England in 1984 and 1988, respectively. His name was also mentioned on the home honours board for his knock of 122 runs for the Marylebone Cricket Club (MCC) in 1987.
A piece of sticky tape has been used to write Rabada’s name and the gold lettering will be placed later.
