India will host England for a five-match Test series, with Rajiv Gandhi International Stadium in Hyderabad hosting the first match on January 25.
Ahead of the much-awaited series, several pundits have spoken on the same lines that the ball would start to spin from the first day and England would face challenges on a turning track. Meanwhile, former India opener turned analyst Aakash Chopra remarked otherwise.
Chopra warned India against being complacent and pointed out their obsession with pitches that cost them the ICC World Cup 2023 final. Notably, the management received heavy criticism after they opted for a slow track for the final despite finding success on flat pitches in the whole tournament.
Chopra, on his YouTube channel, expressed his displeasure over India opting for rank-turners.
“The match revolves around several key aspects, with the primary focus on how the pitch should be curated. A significant question arises regarding the preference for rank turners. I have consistently emphasized, over an extended period, that the team’s fixation on pitch conditions has been detrimental. This insistence on preparing pitches that favour the team has proven costly, even leading to a loss in the World Cup final.”
Aakash’s verdict about the upcoming series
Chopra spoke in favour of India and stated that the WTC runners-up will win the series.
“India holds a clear advantage, and it appears highly likely that they will emerge victorious in this series. The real question is the margin of victory, whether it’s a 4-0, 5-0, or 4-1 scenario. Some might argue that this is a distinct format, but the critical factor is the mindset. Complacency can set in, and to counter that, a straightforward directive to the curator is essential: create a pitch that allows for a decisive outcome, steering clear of a flat and uneventful surface.”
